Dartford started their Vitality Women’s FA Cup campaign with a convincing 8-0 victory over Ramsgate at Princes Park on Sunday afternoon. Starting brightly, Dartford won a penalty in the 13th minute when Nisha Dyett was tripped. Jo Woodgates calmly finished the penalty to give the home side the lead. Emily Vaughan’s right flank cross found Georgie Davis running on in the 21st minute, but her shot hit the side netting. However, Davis doubled the Darts’ lead in the 31st minute when she ran down the left flank, cut inside and shot. The initial chance was charged down but she was on hand to finish from close range to double the lead.
Two minutes later, it was 3-0 when Rachel Stevens scored from close range into the bottom corner. It should have been four on the stroke of half-time but Davis’ shot ballooned over the cross bar.
Dartford started the second half in the same mood as they ended the first, and it was 4-0 in the first five minutes of the second half. Half time substitute Emily Read forced a Ramsgate defender to turn her shot onto the crossbar. The resulting corner found Vaughan who scored her first goal in a Dartford shirt. It was one way traffic for much of the remaining 40 minutes, and Dartford made it 5-0 on the house when Read turned the opposition inside out on the right touchline before finishing with a great strike that the Ramsgate goalkeeper could only get her hand to.
On 68 minutes, Read doubled her tally for the match and made it 6-0 when she lifted the ball over the goalkeeper following good work from Shauni Griffiths and Stevens. Less than a minute later, it was seven as Griffiths scrambled an effort home from close range.
The final goal of the match came from the captain Alicia Gibbs as she chased down the left flank, cut inside and lifted her right footed shot into the top corner to seal the 8-0 victory in front of a crowd of 97.
