It comes with a heavy heart that Tom Bonner has decided to retire from football. He has made what is, for him, an extremely difficult decision.
He is looking to set up in business, which will mean missing a number of Saturdays, and he feels the time is right to concentrate on this as well as spending more time with his young family.
Tom joined Dartford in 2010 and made his debut in the Ryman Charity Shield game v Leatherhead in the July.
He went on to make 453 starting appearances with 3 from the bench, scoring 19 goals. This places him in 6th place in the club’s all time appearances.
Tom has played in a total of 10 seasons and as captain for 6 of those seasons.
He will go down in the history of the club as one of the finest players ever to wear a Dartford shirt.
Last season the club were delighted to grant Tom a testimonial, which will take place at a date to be agreed in the future.
He will always be welcome at Princes Park and I’m sure you will join us in wishing him the very best of luck in the future.
Dowse: “He told me before season ended he wanted to retire and I’ve tried for months to change his mind! But he’s got to look after himself and I respect that! He will be a massive miss for me on and off pitch and I got on well with the lad! He will be made welcome back to the club anytime.
