Victorious Weekend for Dartford FC – Manager’s Comments

Dartford had a very successful weekend when they played Canvey Island on Saturday and had a 5-0 victory, followed by a 2-0 win against Greenwich Borough on Sunday. Following his team’s performance, Tony has said:

It was another good workout against Canvey Island; although we went 1-0 down and I was a little disappointed with the way things were going, the players reacted and took the lead by half time. I was pleased again with the work rate and also happy that Elliot Bradbrook and Harry Crawford were able to complete another 45 minutes.

On Sunday I gave some of the younger players their starts so that they could get some match minutes in before the start of the season. I felt they played very well and again I think they showed that they have plenty of potential after being promoted to the first team squad from the academy. It was also good for Elliot, Harry and Max Cornhill, who had been away for a week, to get a full 90 minutes in before the season starts next week.

I have been very pleased with the way pre-season has gone, especially with the players’ fitness. Pre-Season always brings some strange results and can give you a false interpretation of the way that things are going to be. I think we are now all ready for the start of the season where we start playing for points and the games actually mean something.
