PRESS RELEASE FROM BRISTOL ROVERS
At our last home game, against Dartford, visiting goalkeeper Jason Brown was racially abused by one of our supporters stood on the terrace behind his goal.
The investigation into that incident continues but Bristol Rovers want to show the football world that we are not a racist club and that we will continue to do all we can to eradicate racial abuse from the Memorial Stadium and, indeed, all football stadia.
It may have been an isolated incident but it was one too many as far as we are concerned and one of our supporters has suggested a quite innovative idea that we propose to implement at this Saturday’s game against Forest Green Rovers.
As a result, we will be issuing a red card to the first 5,000 supporters coming through the turnstiles and ask them to raise them in the air for one minute when the players come out on to the pitch at 2.55pm.
