ACADEMY mATCH REPORT

Hitting the post three-times, two overturned penalties and some oppositional wonder saves.

Dartford Whites recorded a valuable point on the road against Welling United with a 0-0 draw in a game which had everything but goals.

The Darts started the game on top creating brilliant chances with Albie Omara-knapp causing all sorts of problems down Welling’s right.

Dartford managed to create a lot of chances for Ashdon Day but the ball just wasn’t quite falling for the team with The Whites hitting the post three times in the first 45.

With a goal seemingly on the cards, Dartford went back out for the second half with the same gameplan and were awarded two penalties for their efforts.

These however were both frustratingly overturned.
After a dominant performance, Welling almost stole it towards the end but at full-time the points were shared in a bittersweet result for Ben Greenhalgh’s side.

Speaking after the game Greenhalgh said: “Generally, a point away is a good result.
“We created chances but there was just always a sense that we would struggle to score because it just wasn’t falling our way.
“We hit the post three times, their goalkeeper made some incredible saves and we could’ve had two penalties.”

The referee had awarded a penalty only for the decision to later be reversed on both occasions after being consulted by his other officials.

Ben continued: “We’ve stepped up twice ready to take a pen only for the decision to later be overturned, twice. After that, frustration sets in and you could just tell it wasn’t going to be our day.”

Greenhalgh awarded Man of The Match to Dean Naylor who despite not having much to do put in an assured and measured performance to sweep the ball up and took some pressure away from Welling’s counter attacks.

The draw keeps the Whites hopes to climb back to the top end of the table with Boreham Wood the next fixture.

“We deserved three-points but a point away to Welling is always welcome.

“I’m very positive after the game, we took everything on just couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net.
“We move on to next week’s home game against Boreham Wood, a game which we traditionally win, so will look to be more attacking and be that little bit more ruthless in training to get us into better habits and scoring decisive goals.”
