The first league game of the season saw the Darts line up with new signing, Megan McKeag, making her debut for the club at left back and Paris Smith (normally in midfield) making her first appearance in goal.
The game started brightly with Emily Vaughan picking up a Charlie Torry throw in on the right in the 3rd minute, driving inside the Worthing box and hitting a fantastic goal from 18 yards out, top left.
Dartford had most of the early possession and pressure but Worthing had the next chance following a glorious through ball which Paris Smith read brilliantly and smothered the ball at the feet of the oncoming striker.
Nicha Dyett was proving to be a nuisance in the Worthing defence and in the 25th minute broke down the left and bearing down on goal her shot took a deflection off a defender in to the side netting for a corner.
Another Dyett attack this time resulted in her being dragged down by the Worthing defender on the edge of the box. The resulting free kick in the 34th minute was blocked by the wall and the follow up went just over the bar.
In the 3rd minute of injury time a mistake by Charlie Torry allowed Worthing’s Ella Newman a diagonal run in to the box and score with a composed finish in the bottom left hand corner.
The second half was a real disappointment for crowd of 65 as the Darts lacked the composure that Worthing were starting to show. Paris Smith mad e good save from a lob in the 52nd minute but it wasn’t until the 72nd minute that Worthing scored the winner with a neat run and finish from Sophie Humphrey.
A disappointing start to the season but we now move on to next Sunday with another home game versus Sutton United, kick off 3pm.
