Another Sunday, another game and this one saw us make the short trip to Ebbsfleet Utd in the quarter final of the League Cup. This local derby always proves to be a good watch for all fans and this latest instalment was no exception.
Darts began the game brightly and created the first chance of the game early on. In the 4th minute, a cross from Emily Woodhouse found Shauni Griffiths inside the Ebbsfleet box. The Darts midfielder connected well with the cross and fired an effort on goal, only to be cleared three yards from goal by Ebbsfleet defender Vicky Grieve.
The most controversial point of the first half came 5 minutes from the break. Emily Woodhouse was fouled inside the Ebbsfleet box. This looked to be a stonewall penalty for the Darts but the claims were waved away by the referee.
Darts went close to going ahead right before the half time interval. In the 44th minute, Emily Woodhouse got in behind the Ebbsfleet defence. The Darts midfielder fired an effort towards goal, forcing a good save from Ebbsfleet keeper, Teagan McAlter.
Darts began the second half, similarly to the first, and went close to going ahead early in the half. In the 53rd minute, Emily Vaughan got in behind the Ebbsfleet defence. The Darts forward tried to lob the onrushing keeper, but the shot was blocked by the Ebbsfleet keeper.
The hosts took the lead in the 60th minute. Mya Powell saw an initial shot blocked by Darts defender, Ellie Dolby. The ball rebounded into the path of the Ebbsfleet forward, who fired home from close range to put the home side ahead.
We reacted well to going behind and we were back on level terms 13 minutes later. In the 73rd minute, Abbey Davies fired an effort from distance beyond the keeper to get us back on level terms.
Darts continued to create chances and we got ahead in the 76th minute. Darts forced a mistake from the Ebbsfleet defence, Emily Vaughan went through on goal and fired home to put us ahead in this cup tie.
Darts sealed their place in the next round of the League Cup 8 minutes from time. In the 82nd minute, Amy Russ with a fine through ball put Emily Vaughan through on goal. The Darts forward scored from close range to score her second and the Darts third goal of the afternoon.
