DFCSA’s Chairman Mick How has completed an 18km-run to raise valuable funds for the club as a farewell gift.
The 69-year-old finished the Darent River Run this weekend, bringing in more than £900 in the process. The money will support DFCSA’s away travel for men and women’s matches.
And not only did Mick finish the event in good spirits, he managed to go straight to the club to watch Dartford Women beat Ashford 4-0!
He said: “The last time I did a half marathon was 18 years ago! While this isn’t quite the same, I was really pleased with it.
“I try to run every week, but wanted to do this as a parting gift and for a challenge – and apart from a sore groin, felt good enough to get along to see the women’s match in which they played brilliantly!”
Mick has been chairman of DFCSA for eight years and on the committee for 21 years. He stepped down from his role a fortnight ago.
He added: “I’m very proud of being part of the club. I was part of the committee that started the community fun day in 2017 and since I have been here, we have raised more than a third of a million pounds for the club.
“I feel that it’s time to move on and pass on the baton to other people who can hopefully have new ideas and new ways of fundraising as well.”
While Mick will still be helping the club out in the background, DFC would like to pass on our thanks and gratitude for his support and tireless work which are sure to be remembered for many years to come.
The DFCSA Just Giving Page will continue to receive donations after this Saturday’s game for a limited time when DFCSA will receive the end total. Cash sums can also be donated through new DFCSA chairman and treasurer Geoff Ashburn.
