Report

Alfie Pavey made it twenty goals this season as travelling Dartford were held by Chippenham Town.

Despite twice going in front with Pavey’s 19th and 20th goals of the season, the away side were pegged back through strikes from James Guthrie and Nick McCootie.

The result sees Dartford drop a valuable two points that still leaves them top of the table on 50 points, but they will be joined by Hampton and Richmond if they win their game in hand.

The home side had the first sight of goal, but Ibrahim got down low to prevent the danger.

Chippenham continued to apply the pressure and a short corner routine almost undone the Darts back line and McCootie was given the time and space to get his shot away but could only hit the side netting.

Dartford looked short of ideas on attack but had their first opportunity from a set piece through Danny Mills who rose highest but couldn’t find a way past keeper

Chippenham then squandered the biggest chance of the match when a looping header from Evans beat Ibrahim but rebounded back off the bar, McCootie surely had the simplest of tap ins but he hoofed it high and wide.

The Darts punished the home side minutes later. Another dangerous corner from Ryan Hayes was met by Mills that fell kindly for Pavey to smash home from close range.

As was the case in the first half, it was the home side who made the brighter start in the second period.

5 minutes after half time player elected to go for goal instead of swinging in a cross and fooled everyone with a ferocious drive into the far corner.

The Darts almost responded instantly with Mills showing good hold up play to feed Hayes whose cross was well met by Murphy, but Thompson got down low to keep it out.

Dartford did regain their lead minutes later though as a dinked ball into the path of Danny Harris set him away and his lifted cross was converted at the far post by Pavey.

The home side weren’t to be counted out and they snatched a point after 67 minutes. McCootie was too strong for Harris and bundled the ball under Ibrahim to dent the Darts recent winning run.
