Dartford succumbed to just their third loss of the season as they were narrowly defeated 1-0 by Chelmsford City in their National League South clash.

A solitary first half strike by Michael West was enough to seal all three points for the hosts.

A tight affair in which Kudus Oyenuga also saw red for a nasty elbow on Bonner but the Darts couldn’t make their advantage count.

The result sees Chelmsford keep pace with the rest of the pack at the top whilst the Darts languish in seventh.

It was the hosts who were first out of the blocks and almost opened the scoring with their first opportunity after Green fed Oyenuga in the box, but the winger fired wide.

The warning signs were there for the Darts and they were soon made to pay five minutes later as sloppy defensive work allowed Barnard to play in West who fired clinically past Ibrahim.

Oyenuga’s dismissal minutes later switched the momentum in favour of the away side and the Darts begun to press for an equaliser.

They almost grabbed it from a corner. Stevenson made a rash clearance and the ball bounced around the box, but the Darts couldn’t turn the ball home.

Dartford were then denied an equaliser by the linesman flag after Pavey has put the ball in the net.

All the momentum was with the away side going into the break with Dartford utilising the extra man advantage but struggling to find a way through.

The wasteful Darts were almost punished straight after the restart as Omozusi embarked upon a driving run before finding Green who nearly produced a wonderful second goal only to be denied by the post.

Whilst they had all the possession, Dartford didn’t have the goals to warrant their play a late onslaught was to no avail as the Darts were agonisingly close to pulling level

First, Harris flashed a ball across the box but no one in a Dartford shirt could get on the end of it before big appeals for a penalty where waved away after Harris was felled.

In the dying embers of the match, the hosts had Spillane to thank for preserving the clean sheet as he dramatically headed off the line from Harris and the hosts held on to record an impressive victory.
