Dartford moves four points clear at the top of the National League South with an emphatic 4-1 won over Truro City.

Andy Pugh’s excellent volley had the Darts in control at the break before a quick double from Alex Brown and Danny Mills had Dartford cruising.

A late own goal made it four before Truro grabbed a consolation in stoppage time.

Second-placed Havant’s draw with Hemel Hempstead meant the three points were crucial in the race for the title.

Berti Schotterl retained his spot in goal to make his home debut while Alfie Pavey was restored to the lineup.

Danny Harris made his 300th start for the club as skipper Elliot Bradbrook became only the ninth Dartford player in history to reach 400 appearances.

Dartford raced out of the blocks at Princes Park, taking the lead after just 14 minutes.

Ryan Hayes engineered space for himself outside and after Truro failed to clear his cross, Pugh lashed a left-footed volley into the top corner.

Truro attempted to gain a foothold in the game but Billy Palfrey saw a shot deflected behind before Cody Cooke hacked an effort wide in the only half chances for the away side.

Mills soon came close to doubling the lead when he got in behind but placed his shot straight down keeper McHale’s throat before Pavey sent the rebound wide.

Schotterl was then called into action for the first time and got down low to hold a long shot from Alex Hartridge.

Dartford went in search of a goal that would give them an assured lead and once again started the half with a bang as they scored twice in two minutes of the restart.

First, Brown swept a low shot into the corner after being well-found by Hayes, before Mills’ cross from the left floated all the way in.

It could and should have been four shortly after. Pavey was sent racing through but smashed his shot over before Mills was inches away from turning home a rebound off Pugh’s effort.

Poor defending in the final few minutes from both sides resulted in a goal apiece to settle proceedings.

First, a shambolic own-goal off a Mills cross had the Darts four up but they were denied a clean sheet in the dying embers when Thomson lashed one in from the edge of the box.
