Dartford progressed in the Vitality FA Women’s Cup with a definitive 7-1 win against Winchester City Flyers on Sunday at Princes Park in front of 82 supporters. The first quarter of an hour was a cagey affair, but the Darts took the lead on 18 minutes. Nicha Dyett’s hard work inside the Flyers’ penalty area was rewarded with a brave finish from Emily Read from six yards. The favour was almost returned on 23 minutes when Read’s free kick was headed against the crossbar by Dyett.
Read was again involved in the Darts’ second goal, crossing from the right hand side with Alicia Gibbs finishing at the back post to double the home side’s lead on 27 minutes. Dyett was not going to be denied further, and on 32 minutes, she scored her first goal for the Darts having broken the offside trap and calmly finishing low into the bottom corner.
Captain Lizzie Adams made it four on 40 minutes with a long range effort, and it was almost five on the stroke of half time as Gibbs’ header from a Kim Green cross rattled the woodwork.
The first twenty minutes of the second half was a disjointed affair, with a number of substitutions but Dartford made it five on 70 minutes. Rachel Stevens was brought down just inside the penalty area, and she stepped up and converted her spot kick. Winchester City Flyers unfortunately lost their keeper to injury and an outfield player was the replacement. On 78 minutes, Sacha Brinkley scored her first goal for the Club with a 25 yard effort which evaded the goalkeeper. She almost improved on the effort three minutes later with a 35 yard effort which was just past the post.
Dartford completed their scoring on 85 minutes when Read’s cross was diverted past the goalkeeper by the Flyers’ captain, with the visitors scoring a late consolation goal with a swerving shot past Jade Charlton in the Dartford goal.
