Midweek action for the Darts saw us travel to Chatham Town in the semi final of the Isthmian League Women’s Cup.

Chatham began the game brightly and created the first chance of the game early on. In the 2nd minute, a through ball put Chatham forward, Jess King through on goal. However, she was denied by Darts keeper, Paris Smith, who was out quickly to block the effort on goal from the home side.

Darts began to grow into the game as the half went on and went close to getting the opening goal midway through the half. In the 18th minute, Abbey Davies sent a free kick from deep into the Chatham box. The free kick was headed on by Emily Woodhouse into the path of Emily Vaughan, who fired an effort on goal just past the post.

The hosts continued to apply pressure and the pressure paid off in the 19th minute. A cross from winger Lottie May Sharp found Jess King in the box. The Chatham forward fired an effort on goal beyond the Darts keeper to score the opening goal for the hosts.

The home side continued to create chances and went close to doubling the lead three minutes before half time. In the 42nd minute, a shot from a Chatham player came back off the underside of the cross bar and was cleared away from danger by the Darts defence.

The hosts began the second half similarly to the first and doubled their lead early in the half. In the 52nd minute, a through ball put Amelia Woodgate through on goal. The Chatham forward poked the ball beyond the onrushing Darts keeper to extend the lead for the hosts.

Darts reacted well to going behind and got a goal back midway through the second half. In the 66th minute, Amy Russ sent a curling effort towards goal that beat the keeper and found the top corner.

Chatham went close to adding a third in the 76th minute. An effort from Otesha Charles was superbly saved by Darts keeper, Paris Smith.

The home side sealed their place in the final with their third goal of the game coming 12 minutes from time. A cross from the right was met by Otesha Charles, who headed into the bottom corner to restore the two goal advantage for the hosts.

Darts continued to search for a way back into this cup tie with the best of the chances coming three minutes from time. A cross from Emily Woodhouse found Shauni Griffiths inside the Chatham box. The Darts midfielder connected well with the cross, but headed over and that was as close as the Darts came to getting back into the game.
