Match reports 2022-23 – No 2 fr H Herne Bay
Sunday 17th July 2022 played on the Community 3G Pitch at Princes Park k/off 3pm
Back to the normal kick off time of 3 o’clock for this one, the conditions were similar to the previous week’s, with hot sunshine for the entire match but also a welcome breeze.
The first shot of the match was by the opposing No.9 but fired over from outside the area.
Amy Green lost her footing during a menacing ’Bay’ attack but was thwarted by Amy Panayi, the ball ending up at Georgie Davis’ feet and her first long-ball hurried clearance went out of play on the half-way line.
Jo Woodgates from her right back position played a long ball forward to Amy Panayi who helped the ball on to Emily Vaughan. she in turn passed out to Emily Read, who got the better of her marker, managed to cut back from the goal-line and sent over a good cross but the safe hands of the ‘Bay’ keeper caught it.
It was Shauni Griffiths’ turn to take the ball into the ‘Bays’ penalty area, she played it to Emily Vaughan who tried in turn to flick the ball on but was a little too close to the keeper who intercepted and took the ball cleanly.
A lovely flowing move from Amy Green, to Emily Vaughan, onto Lizzie Adams and aimed for Amy Panayi but was cut out by a defender for a corner. Jo Woodgates took her in-swinging corner into the area but successfully cleared by the ‘Bay’ defence but only as far as Lizzie Adams who played a short pass to Emily Read but was intercepted by ‘Bay’ and a nice pass out to their left wing could have meant danger for Darts but Georgie Davis made it her ball and cleared it for a throw in.
Another attack found Amy Panayi just inside the area but the keeper came out quickly and took a knock in gathering the ball and received a free-kick.
Good work from Nicha Dyett led to Emily Vaughan securing Darts first goal on 8 minutes. Nicha had played the ball across to Amy Panayi whose shot was well saved and Emily was there to follow up.
Just a few minutes later there was a real let off for the Darts when indecision by the Darts defenders led to the ball not quite reaching Jess Cooper in the Dartford goal but the ‘Bay’ striker couldn’t make the Darts pay for their mistake.
In the 26th minute a through ball from Amy Green found Nicha with a one-on-one with the keeper. The keeper did everything right in successfully cutting down the angle and Nicha’s shot went agonisingly close but just outside of the left upright.
With 35 minutes gone a lovely passing move from Emily Read to Amy Panayi who passed on to Shauni who placed her shot accurately past the keeper and into the far corner for a fine worked and executed goal.
Shortly after, Amy Panayi placed an accurate through ball to Nicha who found herself clear, shot early and the goalie pulled off an excellent save with her outstretched leg, and then a long range 35 yarder from Amy Green was struck well but went too high, bThe ‘Bay’ suddenly had a chance and made in-roads into the Darts defence but a good solid tackle by Rachel Ahern stopped them and played a beautiful through-ball to Nicha, she in turn passed to Amy Green, in a one-on-one situation with the keeper, and chose instead to pass to Emily Vaughan who couldn’t quite connect. Darts set off on another hunt for goals, this time finding Nicha who passed on to Amy Green, crossed to Emily Vaughan but the keeper, who was constantly reading the dangers, got to the ball first.
Half-time score 2-0
Adele Keech, Amy Read and Charlie Torry were introduced in the second half and Darts domination of the game continued.
It wasn’t long before Darts added their third. A cross from Emily Vaughan found Amy Panayi who was near enough on the penalty spot, and coolly shot it past the keeper.
George Davis passed to Shauni Griffith who was impeded by the right back. The resultant free kick was met on the volley by Amy Panayi but the shot went wide.
Shauni Griffiths fed the ball to Georgie Davis who ran into a packed defence but was cleared – but then screamer of a shot came from out of the blue, struck by Adele for Darts’ fourth. The goalie had absolutely no chance with this one.
Just before 70 minutes play, Rachel Ahern passed the ball out to Georgie Davies who sent the ball on to Emily Vaughan on the left-hand side and her cross was met by Nicha and the keeper for the 50:50 ball. The keeper could only flap at it while Nicha kept her balance and her cool to collect the ball, spin on-a-sixpence and neatly put away Darts fifth.
The ‘Bay’ keeper received a yellow card for her annoyance at not being awarded a foul, which was a shame for her, as she hadn’t been at fault with any of the goals and had shown good handling up to this point.
Minutes later, Emily Read sent a corner high into the box, and the goalie completely missed it but the resultant snap-shot from Charlie Torry was just a few inches wide of the target.
Most of ‘Bays’ attacks this afternoon, were brought to an abrupt halt by Rachel and her midfield players led by Lizzie, Amy Green, Charlie and Adele and neither of ‘Bays’ wingers ever got the better of Jo and Georgie at the back.
It was pleasing to see that the Darts’ attacks came from all quarters today – good accurate through-balls down the centre which often carved the Herne Bay defence apart plus good wing play from Shauni, Emily Read and Amy Read, often with support from Emily Vaughan and Amy Panayi. Nisha, if you asked her, I’m sure would run all day long for you! Jess in goal didn’t have too much to do today but the scoresheet says it all.
An excellent all-round performance.
