Another midweek game for the Darts, as we welcomed London Seaward FC to Princes Park in the Isthmian League Women’s Cup.
Darts began the game brightly and created a couple of good chances in the first ten minutes. The best of these chances coming in the 7th minute, a good move down the right saw a cross find Shauni Griffiths in the box. The Darts midfielder volleyed towards goal, but the effort went just over the bar.
However, it was the visitors who would strike first in this contest. In the 10th minute, a mistake from the Darts defence enabled the away side to regain the ball high inside the Darts box, a simple cross across the six yard box found London Seaward’s winger in space who slotted home to put the visitors ahead.
The home side reacted well to going behind and were level shortly after. In the 17th minute, a great cross from Shauni Griffiths found Emily Vaughan in the box, the Darts forward connected with a fine header to beat the keeper to equalise for the home side.
The Darts continued to create chances and it wasn’t long before we were ahead. In the 33rd minute, a great ball from Poppy Payne found Emily Vaughan in space, who fired home to score her second and Darts second goal of the evening.
Darts got their third goal in the 40th minute. A mistake from the Seaward keeper saw the ball fall to Emily Woodhouse. The Darts winger stayed calm to cross across the 6yd box and found Emily Vaughan who poked home to score her first hat-trick of the season.
Darts weren’t finished there and got their fourth goal right before half time. In the 44th minute, a great ball from Poppy Payne found Shauni Griffiths inside the 18yd box and the Darts midfielder fired home to put this tie beyond any doubt.
The second half began and the Darts created several good chances within the first 15 minutes. The best of the chances coming in the 58th minute, as a fantastic strike from Emily Vaughan left the crossbar rattling.
It looked as though the second half would remain goalless until late on as Darts got their fifth goal of the game. In the 84th minute, a fine volley from Amy Russ on the edge of box had enough on it to beat the keeper and Darts were heading through to the next round of the cup.
