Dartford maintained their winning start to the season with a hard fought 2-1 win over Denham United Ladies.
On a cold & windy day, Darts took the lead on 12 minutes when Katie Butts’ hooked cross into the penalty area was headed home by Rachel Stevens. Caitlin Hirst came close to doubling the lead on 19 minutes when she broke free down the left flank but her lob went over the cross bar.
The Darts doubled their lead on 27 minutes when Emily Read’s corner was powerfully headed home by Jo Woodgates. The hosts made a few chances, but their best came on 38 minutes when their right winger crossed the ball in but their shot cleared well over the Dartford goal. The hosts had a chance to reduce the deficit on 52 minutes when they were awarded a penalty. However, their spot kick was blazed high over the crossbar.
Katie Butts came close to extending the Darts’ lead on 63 minutes but her shot was saved by the goalkeeper and scrambled away. Shortly afterwards, the home side scored when their corner was headed home on 67 minutes. However, there were few further chances, with the closest coming from Nicha Dyett whose shot was charged down on 89 minutes, moments before she was sin-binned for dissent.
