Former manager Dean Brennan revealed that budget cuts affected the team whilst he was at the Essex club, leading to the departure of players, however he highlighted the budget at Billericay Town was still competitive. Chairman, Dan Groves was still pleased with the overall performance of the club stating Billericay Town exceeded his expectations. Groves claims his biggest achievement though was getting close to becoming a self-sufficient club, this summer the budget has been reduced.
Even still, the Essex club managed to secure the services of goal scoring midfielder Jordan Parkes from Hemel Hempstead Town. Parkes became the all-time top scorer for the Tudors and reached a century of goals for them back in December. Central defender, Ronnie Henry will bring experience having won promotion with Stevenage to the Football League back in 2005 and the F.A Trophy in 2009. The 35-year-old also helped Luton Town to promotion before returning to Stevenage. Former Dartford goalkeeper Alan Julian was retained by the Blues, whilst former Premier League player Lloyd Doyley, Cole Kpekawa, Connor Hunte, Sam Kelly and Adam Coombes were all released. Right back, Ben Nunn left Dagenham and Redbridge at the end of last season and was snapped up and Josh Urquhart left the Essex club last summer, the midfielder returns to be part of Harry Wheeler’s squad.
The Manager – Harry Wheeler
In January, Wheeler was back at Billericay Town even after being sacked by the club 147 days earlier. Clearly, owner Glenn Tamplin recognised he had made a mistake and from a neutral perspective it was difficult to understand what Wheeler had done to deserve his dismissal. Wheeler won the Isthmian Premier League title, Isthmian League Cup and Essex Senior Cup all in one season, then guided Billericay Town to healthy position in the National South. Differences have now been put aside and after a spell at Maidstone United which didn’t work out, Wheeler is back to try and finish what he started.
