Vanarama Stat Attack: some facts to welcome in the club’s fresh start!

Dartford FC

League sponsors Vanarama offer some answers about the actual importance of the first seven weeks

As the Darts get ready to begin their new era, their new manager will no doubt want to cling on to any positives possible.

Well we have some good news for him – more often than not things improve from this point forward.

We have now passed the quarter way through the season mark. While any kind of assessment wouldn’t be overly welcome at Princes Park, the fans may like to hear to hear some of the stats we’ve dug up.

So 11 games in, how do things compare?

The start made last season wasn’t exactly a supersonic one either. The team were sitting in 15th at this stage last year, but managed to get on a rolling – ending the season in ninth.

It wasn’t to be in 2017-18. Tony Burman’s team took to the top of the table by this point in the campaign but ended up as runners up.

The year before brought a big recovery. Tenth at the seven-week point back in 2016, the team ended up in third – just missing out on promotion.

The season before the side sat in eighth after 11 matches, and that’s where they ended the campaign.

But does the first two months actually matter in the grand scheme of things? We’ve also been looking back to how the table appeared at this point last season – and it seems not.

Torquay United were nowhere to be seen at the 11-game stage last season, the champions-to-be were marooned in 13th place before Gary Johnson came to their rescue.

Leading the way this time last year were Billericay Town, that offered false hope to those in Essex who bought into their owner’s close season statement which declared they would not only win promotion but do it as champions. They ultimately failed to make the play-offs.
